Too often in our professional interactions, the term “defect” is used loosely — frequently to describe any indication or anomaly detected during an inspection or examination. In nondestructive testing (NDT), there is a structured process to qualify an anomaly before it can truly be called a defect. Here it is presented aiming to promote the use of technical terms correctly.
